I watched this movie on Netflix last night. I really enjoyed it.

“The White Ribbon” is a German film about a small village in the time before World War I. In this village horrible things begin happening. Two children are brutally abused. Someone attempts to kill a doctor. A barn gets set on fire. There is a lot of intensity centered around the mystery of who is responsible for the pain and misfortunate that keeps occuring.

The black and white cinematography is beautiful. The story is a bit slow moving, but is very interesting if you are willing to invest your attention in it (kinda like soccer). This film is a really great example of what it looks like when a movie doesn’t show everything that is implied in the storyline. In spite of the graphic subject matter, you don’t see the atrocities actually carried out. There is a lot left to the imagination.
